I'v had a flood, the plumber said the tap on my bath had been leeking for a long time hence the wood under the bath is soaked. I only became aware of the leek when it got worse through saturday night and I got up sunday morning to find a flood in my dinningroom (It's below bathroom) so I called a plumber.
For as long as I can remember my bathroom has stunk, I now know the smell is wet wood.
My question is now that the leek is fixed will the smell go when the wood drys out?
Thank You.

Same thing happened to us. I would suggest checking the joists...some of ours were literally rotted through. It wouldn't be fun falling through the ceiling, naked in the bath...!

trim I never thought of it being rotten, thank you for your reply and a daft question but how will i know if it's rotten?

ummm now I'm really in a state lol
your plumber may have said if it was that bad - but you just got floorboards left in bathroom?
Question Author
tony sorry I was away from comp. The plumber never said it was rotting, the bath panel is off and it's floor boards I'v been prodding lol. The bath was put in useing a massive U bend so the floor has been cut away (not my doing) its hard to get in to look but I'll get in there with a torch later and have a better look. thank you everyone.

If You hear of a woman sitting in a bath thats on her dinning table you will know it's me lol

I just wanted to add that it would be a good idea to leave the panel off until the whole area has fully dried out. It'll speed things up a lot.
Assuming it was a leaking tap connector, then the bath legs will be a good way away from there. That's the important area that takes the load.
Have a good poke around, as Trimbo has said................... and don't worry about the hole in the floor for the trap. That's quite often a necessary thing to do. :o)
arwyn - just let it dry out - will be ok
Question Author
builder and tony thank you both, I will keep the panel off and let it dry out. The panel had to be smashed off as it was painted pine cladding and I never thought about it being removable lol
arwyn - don't think your bath panel needed to be broken - that's a shame unless it was glued on which nobody would normally do - anyway smell will go - when you get new bathpanel made make sure it's removeable ie screwed on so you can get access to trap in the future
Question Author
tony the panels were tacked on with pin nail things, they were hidden in the wood and had 4 coats of paint on, so were to hard to see. I'v put a hole in the ceiling of the room below and half a bucket of water poured out (I thought I'd bust a pipe), add this to what was mopped up yesterday and the wood so needs to be checked. I can't take anymore stress today lol so that job is for tomorrow. Thanks again.
