Although cold today, its lovely and sunny so I've been for a wee scout round the garden.

I've a few mini daffs in flower and some tulips (yes really). A few primroses are flowering (although the slugs seem to be enjoying them). Lots of the perennials are starting to put out some new growth. The lawn is starting to green up.

AND, I am so excited. Just been in the polytunnel and I have some dahlias, marigolds, larkspur and caulis through. With a few other trays looking like they are just germinating.

Also noticing more bird activity. They are a bit noisier in the morning and there seems to be a fair few birdies in the garden.

Did spend about ten minutes weeding but was freezing when I came in.

Agreed giveup. It was too cold to actually spend much time out there, but still worth a little look.

I might get dressed up warm at the weekend and make a start.
Absolutely lovely here in York today, back door open so dog can wander in and out. First day the heating hasn't been on for months............

You are right there Craft. I think today is the first day I haven't overridden the timer on the heating to keep it on all day.
Glorious here too - it lifts the spirits doesn't it.

Craft - if this weather keeps up you will soon be back out there selling clothes pegs and lucky white heather
There is so much to catch up with in the garden, the sooner it warms up the better. Its been a very long winter.
I see, I'm now a vertically challenged pikey.........

Giveup, I know! I've got so much to do. I just want the weather to be fit when I am free so I can get on with it.

At least the nights are starting to draw out now. My girls don't go to bed until about 5.30 now, whereas 2 months ago they were away to their coop by about 3.30.
I still think it's blimming freezing but my daffs are nearly out and I've seen crocuses blooming by the roadside.
Hope they are laying. (your girls I mean)

They haven't stopped Giveup. I stockpiled a load of eggs thinking they'd go off lay in November and they just didn't stop. Even when it snowed they kept at it.

I think because we are very sheltered and get a lot of radiated light off the lake it keeps them a bit warmer.

I hadn't thought about the crocuses Cupid. There are normally some on the other side of the lake. I shall have a look.
Barmaid, did you know you can freeze eggs?

You must take them out of their shells. I freeze them in large ice cube trays
its been a glorious day here too. Ive been for a lovely cycle ride today and not had to wear my hat and gloves !!

Freeze eggs?! Why?

You know the best way to preserve them is to make them into a cake...
