Blocked Waste Pipe.

I noticed that the water seemed to be draining from the bathroom sink at slower rate than usual, over the last few days.
I removed the U bend section and cleaned it out, but that hasn't made a lot of difference, so I'm guessing that the problem must be lower down.
The water from the toilet and shower is draining as normal.
So whats the best way to clear the blockage ? I don't have a plunger yet.

You've removed the p-trap (so called here in the U.S.) but have you removed and cleaned the gunk from the plug. I'm assiming you have one of the lift rod type plugs. If you have an older rubber plug attached to a chain then disregard. If it's like this (or similar)...
