Washing Machine Won't Start.

It's a Tricity Bendix 800 and must be 16 or more years old. When the start handle is pulled the light comes on at the front but nothing else happens. Time for a new one?

Water supply is OK. Some good advice here. I'll spin the programme selector a few time, try it on another cycle selection, and have a look at the door.

Do the Brushes need changing?

At 16 years it has done well.. dont expect the same service from the replacement. They are not built to last these days. Not unless you go for a Miele...sit down before you look at the prices.
The cost of getting someone to look at it will be close to £100 for a call out, plus parts and another visit to fit the parts.
Possibly time to bite the bullet and put the £100 towards a new one.
Bosch tend to come with a 2 year warranty and can be picked up for approx £250 from Currys and John lewis at the moment.

A repairman/woman would know that. But it's £40 to get them out and I don't want to be adding that to the cost of a new one if it's knackered.

I was going to say my first port of call would have been to the motor to check the brushes ... but I didn't know of how far technical ability stretched !

Listen guys. If it was the motor brushes the machine would fill but not run.Nothing happening means no water or not being allowed to fill due to door interlock or control issues . I think.
