im planning on doing my ex wifes garden soon, its about 25ft x 50ft and its grass covered. i was thinking of putting rockery in and doing some paving stones etc but this will maybe be expensive and ive no confidence in that she will upkeep it ( i want my kid to have a nice home )

anyway, large grass area, how best to maintain it, level it off and best grass seeds etc to make a nice straight lawn, i think that would be easiest option ? the existing lawn is a little bumpy and ground is soft especially now in winter , so i want to harden it up and make it easier to mow etc.

any advice ?

D.D. If you want to keep the grass hire a "WAKER PLATE" to flatten the bumps, look at the likes of Gum Tree for used flag stones, also use teramm membrane to keep the weeds down, can you not find someone to keep it tidy for a few £££££££ per week?
First thing to do with it is to get a heavy duty strimmer/brush cutter and cut down/clear that long grass, see what you then have to work on.
What does your ex want - it's her house
How about artificial grass if you think she might not maintain real grass?

who do you think i am donald trump ? LOL
What kind of condition is the garden in now besides being bumpy?
You will need to mow a lawn at least twice a week in the spring and summer - have you got the time?

really ? no way. ill maybe put membrane down then cheap stones in places.

gardens reasonably level but very soft
They have at least one dog, I think. Dog wee kills lawns.
Filling the garden with cheap stones is not going to make it a nice play area. Can you put down a paving stone patio, and a smaller lawn?
have you thought about a rubber crumb play surface?
Isn't that expensive Woof?
What does your ex wife want?
no idea ummm, low maintenance, hoseable for dog mess and safe for kids to play on though
I bet it'll be really expensive. I'll ask OH when I wake him at 23.59 :-)
Go for trees and shrubs, easy maintenance, year round interest and wildlife friendly.
Kids should find it a fascinating adventure exploring the nature it attracts.

was thinking this, make it a labour of love and take my time at it bit by bit .

definately need to get a heavy duty grass strimmer, brush cutter .
Does she own the house? If not you may need to get permission to do any changes to the garden.
