For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.Moss is normally down to poor drainage, so your grass needs a good forking and fill the holes with sand, get some law feed, weed and moss killer, apply this before its due to rain or water after applying, when its all gone black you can rake it out, give the bare patches a good raking to scratch the soil and re seed, speak to some one as you may need a certain type depending on the location of your garden and the direction it faces.

I agree with others, its usually a sign of poor drainage, which can be improved by aerating the lawn, manually with a solid, or hollow tine tool or the mechanical equivalent or even a every-day garden fork, to make the holes to fill with lawn sand, using the back of the rake, back and fourth to fill the holes.
The existing moss can be raked out with a wire rake or scarifying machine.
Alternatively chemical lawn moss killer, which will only act as a temporary fix and the moss is likely to soon come back.
