He has just been, and for an order of £100.00 I gave him a £1.00. He seemed fine with it but felt a bit mean.

I have never done this. I can't think of anyone who does so either. Is this standard practice, then?
I have never used any of these supermarket delivery services before , but if I had, I would probably have given £5:00....it is Xmas after all !
i'm meaner then. I don't tip- it's all paid by credit card beforehand.
Why do you need to tip him ?
I think Jenny meant every delivery, Mikey, not just Xmas.
I'd be surprised if they expected anything for regular deliveries.
I wonder if the deleivery staff declare any tips for tax puposes
GG....As I said, I have no experience of this, but I would still feel that some kind of tip would be deserved. I tip my barber and those young chaps that valet my car every month.
Have never tipped, I don't know what the individual stores policies are but anyway I never have.

Had a lovely chat with my driver today, she's lovely, wished her Happy New Year.
Never done it - I don't think they're allowed to carry cash are they?

I've given em a cuppa & two have asked to use the loo, but tips? No.

We don't tip, people get paid for doing their jobs so why would we?
No they get paid to deliver our groceries by large supermarkets and probably get paid as well as I do!
I don't tip, never have
At the risk of being rude to you, jennykenny, £1 sounds a bit mean. Better to give nothing than a pound, I think.
I don't have my groceries delivered....but if I did I wouldn't tip them....
I kind of agree with cloverjo, on the other hand I'd prefer tip the driver some small change to get into a public loo rather than use mine as L-i-K does
Public loos these days are as rare as hens' teeth. I live near a large northern city which no longer has any public conveniences.
I wouldn't tip them anything but would probably give them 5 or 10 quid at Christmas (assuming it's the same driver who has been delivering all year)
Only recently we've had some installed on the main Square in town, one must pay but if the driver was in my town, that's where I'd send them, or tell them to try holding until they get back to the store
I've no problem with a loo visit, they don't go back to a store after every delivery they are out for hours - I've only ever been asked politely 2 or 3 times.
