I'm just watching a programme on house security. I'm quite aware of checking all the Windows and doors are locked before I go to bed, or ask those still up to check them all. Do you all go through that routine, or are you a bit forgetful laid back about it ?

Off out for a bit .. I'll look in later!
I make sure all the doors are locked, not windows, though. I'm terrified of a fire and wouldn't like to be scrambling around looking for keys to a window.

Don't tend to need to; they're defaulted to locked normally.

Unless my woman is visiting, she likes the cold "fresh" air in preference to the warm normal air, in which case bedroom windows are left open to freeze us anyway.

We're all aware of what needs to be done and just get on with it
I have made the odd mistake, Eleena but on the whole I'm a bit over fussy about security...even when I wasn't living alone....

The conservatory in our last house seemed to me to be a burglar's dream so on going away I'd use pillows, blankets and a wig to look like a big person asleep on the sofa......beer can and a plate of crumbs on the floor beside him.....
My son thought it was the daftest security measure he'd seen... :-)
i always make sure everything is locked up before i go to bed, my doris would probably kill an intruder

rocky,
I don't really think about fire hazard normally, just intruders. Had new windows out in a while back, they're all closed and locked, don t want to lose the keys.
spath, security lights here too. I'd like to sort some cctv.
OG .. I like a bedroom window open a little too, then need to run up and close them when I remember before going out the door to work!

Baldric, of course, but sometimes memory fails us.
gness that made me laugh out loud!! ;0)
ael, yep me too, unless there are others still up after me. Sometimes when everyone's in bed, my mind thinks .. did I close that window? .. and though I probably did, I have to get up to check!

Thanks for replies, off to chill x
Always lock doors, my windows can be locked with just a few mm open so I leave them on that to let air in.

Have seen those doorbells / security lighting which link up to your mobile phone, they look good, you can keep an eye on your home even if you're not there.
beside every locked door (I have got 3 sets of patio doors), but well hidden, is a key to that door. When I lock the front door at night, the key stays in the lock. Downstairs windows are closed and locked, upstairs windows stay open. I fear fire more than burglary.
Doors locked...check. Security lights on auto...check. Downstairs-area burglar alarm set...check.
I find sitting on a rocking chair on the front porch with a shotgun across my knees deters all but the most amoebic pond life.
:-)))
Dogs job, they wont let anyone near their feeder ;)
Im lucky that I live in a high rise flat. Ive only needed to check that my front door is locked and ive gone asleep during the recent heatwave with ALL my windows left wide open with zero chance of getting burgled. (unless there are any burglars with a 60 foot ladder doing the rounds...)
Probably not as diligent as we should be - downstairs windows shut at night and I like the doors locked (front door frequently left unlocked during the day by himself if he leaves last). I'm not overly worried about anyone getting in through the back as the security from the army camp would put them off/catch them on camera.
any determined burglar can cut glass for entry
Question Author
Darcey, I can do that with my windows, it's a handy feature.

woof, the upstairs windows, that's where I tend to sometimes forget thinking no one would bother climbing, but of course they would.
ginge .. I have a defunct alarm that I should really sort.
Doug .. that would do it! ;0)
tamb .. Great deterrent!
nailit ... I always felt safe living in high rise, I did wonder if above or below could shimmy on to the balcony sometimes, doubt it though.
sherrard, I'd have to go back and lock it!
