Depends on the herb and what it likes. Maybe good to put into containers in case they spread too much. I've recently bought a multi tier container to try to grow short herb plants in.
Woody mediterranean herbs like dry conditions, poor soil and full sun.
oops..hit send too soon. Rampant herbs like mint and lemon balm are much less choosy, but still do best in sun. Contain these in pots. Lemon balm is also a rampant seeder.
you should get best idea from a decor person
