my daughter has a hugh palm tree and long brown dead fronds drop off it all the time and when windy her garden is covered can anyone tell me its name so I can google cutting these dead bits off x

It is probably a Cordyline, or Australian palm tree. I have three of these trees, and the brown spears drop off all the time. My gardener chap cuts them off at the trunk when they are ready to drop.

Cordyline australis seems a safe bet to me.
I grew one for many years, its not a true palm but looks like one to most people.
Cut the leaves off with heavy duty scissors, as they are very stringy. Don't try pulling them off if they are still green but rather cut them leaving 2 inch stubs.

we have bought an extendible saw as it is really tall x
It must be a good 20+ years old then.
And that's a lot of grass skirts!
