Sparrow Nest Boxes

I have bought 2 Sparrow nesting boxes. I intend to fix them to the rear of the house which is West facing. How high do you think I should fit them. Cheers Chris

High enough to be clear of predators (foxes, cats) but not so high you can't maintain them easily (winter clean out).

My nest boxes are just over 2 metres from the ground.

High enough that a cat can’t climb up. Make sure the hole is small as larger birds will get their head inside and steal the babies ... make sure its in the shade. Dont expect the birds to go in immediately, it will take time for them to get used to it being there. Good luck!!

No not West facing. Between North and East as the RSPB advises.

I'd go for high as possible, right up to the guttering.
I remember when I was a kid, house sparrows would nest successfully in the bracket between the drain pipe and the wall each year. Never seen any around here though, you're lucky good luck.

Sparrows nest under the eaves in my house front and back.
Same as you at the back, chip, between the drainpipe and the wall.

Obviously, with a nest box you need to clean it so high as you can.

Many thanks to you all. I have always had the Tit box facing North but didn't know about sparrows.. Cheers
