broken brass nut

how can i remove a brass nut that has snapped flush in its housing? my husband has tried chiselling ot with screwdriver and drilling but that didn't work. i don't want to have to call the plumber out just to remove and replace a nut.

i mean a bolt.

Obviously it has corroded in if it snapped off. I would suggest heating it to loosen the corrosion or scale before you can shift it but I don't know what it is.

I always drill out snapped/ stuck bolts

Use a screw extractor. They can be bought (usually in sets of about four or five different sizes) from most DIY outlets - cost about a fiver.

You drill a small hole in the centre of the offending bolt and insert the extractor (which looks a bit like a tapered drill but with a coarse left hand "thread"). Turning the extractor (either with a decent pair of grips or, preferably, a die-holder) will do the job. A bit of WD40 or similar before you start should ease the process.
