Need a plumbers advice

OK, try to make this quick .

In my bathroom yesterday, the carpet was wet. I thought it was shower leaking on carpet.

Today in dining room, the ceiling which is (under the bathroom) there are 3 separate water lines, (heavy in one place) where obviously water has seeped through. And has moved along the boards.

I know I have to get plumber out. But, brother in law suggests I keep heating on all night, as he thinks its something to do with pipes expanding?

It sounds like you have a leak, the questions are as follows I'm assuming you have a walk in shower with a separate feed to it the water may be escaping from the shower frame (seals) this will only evidence itself when you use it. As for the joints theory (I doubt it) your water system is pressurised even when you're not using it (if the joints are leaking they'll leak) it really depends on what kind of joints have been fitted if they're soldered (yorkshire fittings) then they should'nt leak at all, if they're conex (compression) it might just need tightening (take it off use P.T.F.E and put it back together again) and if it's pushfit (plastic) take it off and do it again (hand tight).
Without seeing it it sounds like the frame is leaking.
You can get condensation on pipes but not to the extent that you're suffering.

Waiting on a plumber to return my call.

Its stopped leaking at moment. But obviously needs a professional to sort it out. I would not know where to start!

You're lucky I just happened to be on this minute. The pipes will be under the floorboards, if it's possible to make the shower head reach the bath (or sink, toilet or even the window) then turn it on and run it into there (that way the only water in the locality will be through the pipes) if you start to see water then the pipes are leaking, if you don't see any water then take the shower head off and run it straight into the waste in the tray (if it starts to leak then you're leak is on the waste pipe) otherwise put the head back on and starting from the bottom work your way up concentrating on localised areas to see if any water starts to seep through. It's really just a process of elimination. Good luck with it. I did one with a friend and it turned out he had a tiny crack in the tray by the waste which when he stood on it in a certain place would allow water through. I told him it'd be cheaper to diet!

Its not a walk in shower, but one which is over the bath. I cant get the carpet up as its glued down tight!!!

Well then that makes it even easier, you've just got to take the bath panel off and have a look you'll see where it's leaking. If you don't get the leak when you're using the bath then it's nigh on a certainty that your leak is in the seals around the bath, if it's an electric shower then there's only one feed which will be cold water from the bath via a spur. An old dry cloth and maybe torch will come in handy. You probably don't need a plumber just some silicone. For the bath not ya boobs!

I have taken the bath panel off, and investigated with torch. The bit I cant understand is why I have 3 separate water lines on my dining room ceiling, which is below the bathroom. Its from one side of the dining room to the other. So obviously water has moved right across the bathroom floor.

Well off the top of my head at a guess (you have an electric shower) what you've got is hot and a cold to the bath and then a cold to the shower (whoever fitted it took the feed nearer to the main).
Go the shops and buy some masking tape, a silicone gun (you don't need alicence) some silicone and maybe a stanley knife, or some silicone sofener and maybe a wonderbra! I think you're being modest. Silicone can be a swine to rake out but once done, put your masking tape on the bath and on the tiles as close to the join with the wall as you can (not too close), go over it with your silicone, then rub your finger along it to flatten it out, if you see any gaps go over it again, pull away the masking tape (whilst it's still wet) check for any gaps and then leave to dry for 24 hours. Try it the whole lot (wonderbra excluded) will come to no more than �15 �20, worth a pop.

its not an electric shower. It works off the mains (do I sound like I know what I am talking about?)

I think I need to find a "man who can" to help me out. Am not a complete fluff head, but am a real scare baby with anything electrical or plumbing!

I really could do with the silicone boobs though. But think sorting the bathroom must surely come first in my list of priorities!

Too quick on the stars dear heart! If you go to B&Q (or any hardware store) you can buy a tiling strip. What they are is like a quarter moon shaped piece of plastic about 2 metres long with self adhesive on one side (there are other shapes, but choose one that can get past your taps) stick that on over the old silicone (you will have to mitre the corner 45 degrees) and then go over the it with the masking tape and the silicone. Have a go, you can't do any real damage and you may save some money.
If Aretha Franklin was dead, she'd be turning in her grave as it was she who said "Sisters are doing it for themselves".
When you say off the mains I assume you mean off your heating system? Either the combi boiler or the immersion tank, I'm not sure what the third pipe is but it could either be redundant or the gas pipe (either way leave it be). If you have a combi boiler and one of the pipes is larger than the other 2 then I'd say it's the gas supply, one way of finding out is to run the water and put your hand on the pipe, you'll feel the water coursing through, and if it's hot well you get the picture.
P.S.
Let your ceiling dry out then (providing the plaster has'nt blown) go over the staining with some bleach (X2 or 3) paint the whole ceiling in base coat (X2 or 3) on the stain, then finish it off with 2 coats of emulsionand the jobs a goodun!

blimey everton, that sounds complicated. I do all my own decorating, car maintenance, gardening, and everything else, so Aretha would be proud of me!

And thanks for your tip on how to treat ceiling, yes the paint has blown. I only redecorated that room this summer too... Grrrr
