yucca trees

our community has yucca trees, 10 foot high with thick trunks, growing in tubs 2 foot square by 18 inched deep, and have been in these tubs for 5 years-- they are now severely pot-bound and we were going to remove them from the tubs and plant them into the ground--however, local gargen group say we musnt as this is the worng time of year to do so--advise please?

Your Yuccas can be moved into a new home.Just remember to support them well and water them copiously. Regardless of those advantages I still prefer to do things in the rhythm of the seasons and as your Yuccas have been in pots for 5 years I don't think a wait of 4 months or so is too onerous and then apart from the supporting of them, nature will generally take care of the rest.
