This one's for any creative minded people out there... I've just had an extension and will be fitting a kitchen from scratch. The room is large and very light and we're having red cherry wood style cupboards. My husband has decided he WILL be having a Union Jack fronted Smeg fridge which is obviously going to be the main feature of the room but I need some tips on colours for the walls and flooring. Any suggestions?

A Union jack smeg??? why?? Thats not gonna date well. What about a burberry check carpet, and some louis vitton wallpaper, to get the 'desired' effect.

I have no choice in the matter, much to my dismay, its the one thing in the house that he is choosing and hes decided to be rather extravagent! HELP!!!
How about a dark blue floor and counter top with white walls and red trim?
i would have something dark on the floor such as wooden flooring to take the glare off the fridge,,or dark cork or marbel tiles,,on the floor or even sea grass flooring it would tone it down..the walls i would just do in a hint of blue to keep it light,,then i would buy country looking kitchenware such as copper saucepans etc to try and give it a homely feel..
Union Jack fridge? Nasty.
if you have no say in what fridge youre having - unless he does all the cooking and you never go into the kitchen to see it - i suggest you have some marriage counselling because you sound like a doormat. sorry to be blunt but to have no say at all in deciding  your own fridge is worrying.

I think you're all being a bit harsh - i think it's quite fun LoL :) quite expensive fun, but fun none the less.

I think you need to keep the rest of the colours very neutral.  Nothing fussy at all and I wouldn't introduce another colour.  The fridge is going to be the focal point (whether you like it or not :) I would stick to cream or off white tiles, cream would go well with the cherry red, if you did want to go darker, maybe a grey slate on the floor (slate can be very cold though) or strip wood.  and if you wanted to add a bit of interest add in some random red tiles - but be careful on the colour match.

It'll certainly be a talking piece :)

your husband is showing scary Chav/Ned tendencies katielou....quickly divorce him now before you have to have a bulldog for a pet, a chavalier as your car, and shell/track suits as your attire coupled with way too many gold curb chains.   Commiserations on the tackiness of your kitchen.  I'd honestly say that nothing will make it look good, not with that fridge.
Let's cook with cool colors. I mean to say that the kitchen is considered heart of a home. Paint your kitchen in perfect colors to make cooking a pleasure. Before choosing any shade when thinking about paint colors for kitchen, you should include cabinets and counter tops in your plans . Stainless steel or granite counter top can upgrade a simple kitchen as they are hard wearing with low maintenance.
