My Hoover has just died. It doesn't deserve to go to hoover heaven it was so rubbish! What do you all recommend? It will be used on carpets, wooden floors and tiles and has to be able to cope with dog hair. I don't really want to spend more than £300 if possible. Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

We had a similar thread to this a while back, most of them suggested a Miele (sp)
good for pet hairs. I have a Dyson rollerball DC24 its ok for different floors ie carpet to wooden. had it 8 months now but had to have the engineer to it. Good suction but the hose isn't very long for the staircase, and I have to empty the container more often. It isn't heavy like the other Dyson vacuums I've had.

steer clear of dysons they breakdown en mass
ive had various designs and makes but if found the cheapest basement bargain ones have the most suction and have lasted the longest £25 tops

My Meile Cat & Dog is still going strong after 5 years - best cylinder machine I have ever had. As gran says there was a thread a couple of weeks ago, camps divided about Dysons, mine couldn't cope with the volume of cat hair in this house. I have solid floors, carpets and rugs and the Meile is fab.

The Miele Cat & Dog - does the lot! We bought it on a recomendation from someone on here & they were right. "Would have the floorboards up if they weren't nailed to the floor". Laughs in the face of cat fur, static sock thingies in the carpet - the lot!

I have a Dyson DC08 which works perfectly. Had it for 6 years and never had any trouble. It has never been serviced, never replaced any filtres and works fine. Considering the wealth of James Dyson I suspect his products are not that bad!!

Hi boxy - it's those little black (or whatever colour) spots that seem to get yanked off the bottom of the socks by the carpet (none of the men in this house wear slippers) and my old vacuum cleaner wouldn't shift 'em!

I asked the same question back in 2007 and the I took the advice of the majority and got the Miele Cat & Dog, as lardy says it will lift anything. We've a long haired GSD and believe me he casts a lot of hair despite regular grooming so we need a good vac to keep on top of it

aaah... don't have that problem. OH wears slippers and I wear shoes as little as possible, barefoot is good (I get into trouble for doing it in the office). Yes Budlet, we recommend Meile!

I have a westie, but no carpets and I have a Hetty.......no complaints about it whatsoever and they only cost £100.00.........

Sebo X4. Pricey, but worth the money. Only outlet is John Lewis, but google it and you will find it around £50 cheaper.

We've had our Dyson for years and years but I have heard a lot of people moan about them so maybe we're just lucky!

dc24 all floors.... best hoover weve had small and light weight, good strong suction, easy to manouver we seen them on offer for £147 in asda not so long ago...

same here Sophie / Gary , Dyson DC9 (i think) over 10 years old (we have 3 cats & 2 dogs ) , best vac we have ever bought..no problems at all. Best bit is everything dismantles for cleaning,no bags to buy, a lot of thought has gone into it.
If or when it is replaced it will be another Dyson.

We have a DYson Animal worked with the fluff from our longhaired cats but Dysons do break easily and parts are expensive. The only good thing relacing belts etc is very easy DIY Would consider the miele when it fails completely have seen independant recommendations

I've had a dyson for years but if I could aford a better vacuum I'd get one. Dysons are well overated
