I remember staying in a large 1920s house which had push button bells in the main rooms. If you pushed a bell in one of the rooms, there was a glass box on the kitchen wall and in the box was were little printed squares which said either 'Bedroom one' or 'Bedroom two' or even 'Sitting Room' and they swayed from side to side when the bell was pushed.. I think they had them in Victorian kitchens, with a row of bells. What I want to know is, what exactly are these boxes called? Are they just called 'display boxes' ? Hope I've described this OK !

I know what you mean but I am not sure they ever had a name. They were for summoning servants I believe
