low battery?

maybe a small amount of smoke got through?

ghosts?

smoke alarms measure impurities in the air.probably something to do with the drying carpet
Another reason could be that dust has managed to get into the sensor from the machine that cleaned the carpet as when we had work done in our house we had problems with our alarm for ages after, try hoovering the dust out

If you gas fire has not been used for a while the dust that has settled on it burns. You can smell it. This sets the detector off. Happens to mine every winter the first time we use ours.

it could be that the smoke alarm detects particullar gases that could be comming from the gas fire especially all that carbondioxide there r also gas alarms that work on this principle. also if it is quite sofisticated and you room was very damp then perhaps the damp made it go nuts but that is unlikely

I had one that went off when I was mopping the floor. Some models od smoke alarm are set off by steam, carbon monoxide fumes etc.
