Someone was telling me that once upon a time,one could have a little gadget attached to a bicycle frame which when you rode it,it touched the wheel and caused fricton which lit up the cycle light on the handlebars.

Has anyone heard THIS before!!!!

I had one.It was a knurled wheel which touched the wheel.

Yep, used to be quite common - but it's not really that good compared to the quality of battery powered lights now.

Fun fact: You're required to have one in Berlin because batteries might run out. Most just ride around with one attached, but not "engaged" :)

They have been around for 70 years at least.!!!!
If you don't have a real one you can pretend you do by pegging some cardboard on the spokes so it makes the noise :-)
Wasn't there another version that had a dynamo built into the front wheel hub?
