We're in the same position after 4 years.....the mail did dry up eventually. You have to remember that the postman has to deliver to the address, not the person, so please don't blame them.
Somehow or other we now get phone calls asking for the previous occupants. How they associate our number with theirs is a mystery and more than slightly irritating.

Get a red pen or make up some stickers on your PC in order to write 'NOT KNOWN AT THIS ADDRESS' on each item.b Then post them back in the postbox.
I did this for a about 2 months on the advice of my Postman and the mail virtually stopped.
The situation wasn't helped by the fact that the previous occupant of 11 years thought that a 3 month redirection was sufficient.

Does any of it come through in an envelope with a return address shown on it? If so you could always strike a big "X" through your address with an arrow pointing overleaf to the return address saying "Addressee moved. Please delete from your mailing list". Then stick the envelope back in the post box next time you're passing. The other naughty thing I used to do with unwanted junk mail (before the Mailing Preference Service was available) was use the pre-paid envelopes often enclosed to stuff in other companies' junk mail and send it back to them !
