I drink a lot of coffee. Would it be cheaper to boil just the amount I need each time, or boil a kettle full and store the surplus in a flask?

Better than a traditional hottie, get yourself a cherry stone one which you bung in the microwave for 2 minutes. No water involved and the heat lasts far longer.
Barry, you are a man after my own heart. I pour a left-over cup of water into a plastic bottle and use it to water my plants. I love to get a second use rather than just pour it down the drain. Perhaps it comes from being a Yorkshire lass. :0)

Hey, you're not a Yorkshire lad are you?

Here's another tip for saving on the leccy. Don't stand at your fridge pondering what it is you're looking for. Open the fridge door and grab your intended as quick as you can, then shut the door pronto. Saves the warm air from the kitchen going into the fridge (you don't want that to happen as it makes the fridge work harder to get back to fridge-temperature).

No, not from Yorkshire :) Same with the freezer. You've given me an idea. Maybe I should the day's milk in to a chilled flask first thing in the morning so that I don't have to keep opening the fridge door every time I make a drink. What do you think?
I like that idea. My kitchen is usually on the cool side, so I fill a small jug with milk first thing in the morning and just leave it out all day.

When summer comes I stand my small jug in a cereal bowl half full of cold water. Works a treat.

I must be honest, I don't do it when I have visitors round - I don't want them to think I'm bonkers. :0)

That's what I shall do starting tomorrow. I'll pop a flask in the fridge next time I have to open it
Also put your pyjama's on before it goes dark- that way you dont need to put the light on to get ready for bed
Try licking your plate clean before (IF then) washing it.
Love these money saving tips. Keep 'em coming folks.
Make a pot, cool quickly keep in the fridge and reheat in a microwave as needed. Don't boil it. Also ready for iced coffee if you fancy it.

Or use a modern one cup machine

Fill empty spaces in your freezer to keep the running costs down. Anything will do - scrunched up newspapers, cardboard.

These are not practical money saving tips. The effort 'v' the saving is just not worth it.

ummm, no effort required, it just becomes a habit.
jennykenny on here used to put a bucket in her shower to collect the water, then use it for garden watering
I've never heard such nonsense in all my life!
Is it April the first?
It is an effort, Barry, not something I'd make a habit of. You're not making enough savings to justify it.

I can understand it if you were an eco warrior but I don't believe you are.
Well that took an unexpected turn hahahaha most enjoyable thread to read!

Happy New Year everyone x

Excellent. Will now keep a bucket in the shower
My bath (with shower over) is only an arm's length from my toilet - so it is ideal for using the bath & shower water to flush the loo. Bonus. :0)
Sorry divegirl, missed your good wishes. Happy New Year to you too.
