there is one staff member that is a big bully, and I haven't taken to her from day one. I observed the way she speaks to people, and how she talks behind their backs. She is a big lady, and intimidates some staff, and no one sticks up for themselves. Well, yesterday she was vocal with me for all the patients to hear, I got annoyed so told her to f off in a nice way. She didn't say anything after that. I have my PDR soon, so wondering whether I should mention to the boss that there is bullying going on, she isn't the only one. There is another one that is behaving like her, but not as bad.
Also this large bully always made me uncomfortable on my first week. She was unhelpful and rude to me. A lady left recently, they collected for her pressie, and only 5 people contributed, the bully and a few others didn't because she stuck up for herself with them.

Hi Phleb, I hope this helps - -- IThis is a difficult one. Unhelpful and rude doesn't necessarily mean this person is a bully. Being a big lady doesn't make her a bully either. I think if you are new you might not have given this person or yourself a chance - could be a clash of personalities or you are alike in some ways! You had a go at her too - she listened to you...

How can you say f off in a nice way?
Question Author
Well, I told her that she is unprofessional and is not my boss, so what she says to me wont take affect one bit, so off you go and pick on someone that cares.
okay...I was just asking....it sounds like you are quite upset and sensitive about this. In the work situation, it is never ever a good idea to start trading insults or obscenities with other staff. If you feel that you are being harassed or bullied then use the bullying policy and the proper channels otherwise you risk the other person accusing you of the same thing.

lol veggie
Question Author
yeah, but there were 3 other staff there, and all agreed she picked on me for no reason.
Question Author
Woofgang, I do agree with you. I didn't trade insults, although she was insulting me as to how I work.
I'm not sure why you keep referring to her size..
Then have a read of your staff handbook and if you feel that strongly enough, which it reads that you do, then follow the correct channels and lodge a complaint with your HR or line manager.
"I haven't taken to her from day one"

ah... so that proves it definitely not you then!
Question Author
Well, I must admit she is very much taller than me, and well built, but not fat. I was also intimidated at first, until I saw how she treats people. I didn't realise I was referring to her size, and you have taken offence sara3, apologies x
you may have cause for complaint, but there's no reason to wait for your PDR (I assume some kind of review??).

also, no one is obliged to contribute towards leaving collections.
lol, *I'm* not offended, but there was a thread a couple of days ago about referring to someone in a descriptive manner when it's not necessary.

Chickfickens, the reason I didn't take to her from day one was because I didn't know how to do the job and was in training, and my supervisor asked her to watch me while she went to lunch, I got stuck on a patient, and couldn't get it right, so I asked her to help and she snapped at me, the patient was pretty annoyed, first because I was training, and second because she was very impolite to both me and the patient and was rough with the patient. (no dirty jokes please)
Question Author
Hope that wasn't me on that thread?
