resign or what
I have always worked and was in my last job as a buyer for 14 years. I was made redundant but had to work through redundancy period. I applied for other jobs and first one offered was a stock control position. I grabed it as it sounded OK but also it meant I didn't leave my company withouit a job to go to - pride I suppose. Anyway 5 1/2 months on and I am 5 weeks into being off work (stress related disorder) as work mainly continuous inputting and repetitive and loads of it. One morning I just could not go - got so far to work and had panic attack. I am due back at doctors in 2 weeks. I am only getting statutory sick pay as not been there 6 months - 6 months is probationary period. I don't know what to do. If I pack job in then unable to claim benefits, so no money till I get another job. Shall I ring the company and put it to them that I leave by mutual agreement-they terminate my employment)gets round benefits prob or maybe if I ask my doctor for a letter stating that the job is causing stress this would also solve that problem. Going back there fills me with anxiety and I am generally in turmoil. I feel I need to get out and get myself sorted.

Sorry to hear about your rotten time at work. Sounds really nasty!
One alternative may be to find temping work through agencies and do that until you get a "proper" full-time job. This would sort you out on the money front and avoid the dreaded "gap in the CV".
Additionally, many agencies offer temp-to-perm positions and so you could effectively "try out" a new job before you commit to it long term.
I hope your health improves soon and something sorts itself out.

PS - Pretty obvious statement, but agencies are generally local, so you're best looking in the phone book, or doing a fairly specific google search! :-)
