My 17 yr old son wants a job in construction. He tried desperately to get a carpentry apprenticeship but has realised he will have to wait till next year now. He has completed a multi skills building course at college and would be quite happy with a labouring job just now. We have tried all the usual places, I have asked so many people called in favours but no luck. We live in south east Kent, anyone know of a building job in our area?

Hi! Sorry I can't help as I'm based in Suffolk, but have you tried any local Housing Associations, I work for one up here and we often take on people like your son. Other than that try and contact as many local companies as possible - write with a CV, they might not have anything right now but in a month or so... you never know! Other than that keep asking, word of mouth gets you in first. Hope this helps, Good Luck! Kind regards, Polotoo.

As i am only 18 myself, i tried to get into the construction industry early but it is very tough now as apprentiships are hard to find. As he has already got qualifications in the industry you could think about courses in university. Im there myself and high points are not needed. At the end you can leave with a degree in construction and this will place you at the top of the pile for any job he wishes to go for! Just an idea for you... Good Luck
