Abbey, I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news but millions of people do jobs they absolutely hate and they do it because they need to earn money. You really ought to try to give your best in your new job and fit your home life and social life in around it. Booking a day off when you've only just started doesn't really give the impression that you're enthusiastic. Try to think positive and do your best there. If you give it a chance you may well find you love it. Who knows .... working with the public might even find you a nice boyfriend.
abbeylee, the world, unfortunately, does not revolve around you.
You 'currently' have jobs in Retail and a Care Home; both these are 7-day-a-week businesses and staff have to work across all days. You can't dictate your 'needs' to an Employer.
I work in Retail and have to work evey Saturday and one Sunday in four. I organise my life around those facts.
You will have to do the same if you are to remain employable.
If I was the Care Home boss and you came and said 'I know you've cut my hours, but can I have them back until I get another job..', then my answer would be 'You may as well leave now'.
By the way, what does 'induction' mean? Are you joining the Church? no, that is ordination, and erm she is the wrong gender ( for most) - or having a baby - - - dirty boy!
Induction is a meeting on the first days where the new employees are told what is what. Completely at the employers control.
1978 we had induction at Northwick Park Hospital and around 2 of the three hours were what to do if the consultants sneaked in a private patient.
as if really we cared a flying frack for that.
Barbara Castle ( aaah bless!) closed all the private wings in the NHS hospitals and all that happened is that the consultants spent hours a day in a car going to and fro the prive
Abbey...if you do not take on board all the practical and generous advice you've been given...you will always be in the position you are now. You will never have the perfect job. You will never be independent, live on your own, be able to socialise at the level you appear to do now. Never get ahead.
Take this job...forget taking days off, and socialising for the next month. Forget the ""I'm not sure I like this job" thoughts. Just get on with it, do what needs doing, work your butt off and do your best to impress your employers. Otherwise you'll be going in circles forever.
15.46 //Saturday 3 - 7 - I can't do that all the time//
Abbey, in many people's books, there is no such word as "can't".
It's only 4 hours out of your Saturday and, if you are concerned about socialising, the night is young enough to enjoy time with friends. Once you are settled into the job, then it might be possible to change shifts with other staff members if there is an important event you wish to attend. Don't, please, be so negative.
