low aspirations or what?

theres a girl in my class whose predicted a*'s in every subjects and so far on all her tests and courseworks she's got a*s. but she only wants to be a primary school teacher.

don't you think that someone of that intelligence should aim higher in life?

i am predicted a s and a couple of bs and i want to be a marine biologist/oceanographer and my teachers say that theres nothing stopping me and that i could quite easily be one. so why has she got suchlow asperations for life?

I don't think that i am as old as you but at my school the teachers keep banging on about reaching your potential and being optimistic.

Maybe this girl is very pesimistic and thinks that she won't get all a*s.

My Sister in-law is 18 and had a private education. She got A's and B's in her GCSEs and similar for her A/S Level results. However she has, in my opinion wasted this education and her potential as she is now training to be a make-up artist. To qualify, all she needs are a couple of 1 day courses and some case studies and that's it! Whereas all her friends are going to uni.

I completely understand your concerns. Primary School Teacher isn't such a bad career, but maybe you could encourage her to set her sights a little higher considering her potential.

Good for you and your aspirations. No two people are alike so you should respect her choices. I did very well at school and am "only" a teaching assistant. The job I do is 100% satisfying, no two days are the same, and I can go home at the end of every day knowing I have made a difference.

Good luck to you nix, but can I just say that I know someone very well, who's also planning on being a marine biologist. She's in her second year at uni and only just scraped in on her A's and one B, so you need to work very hard to get good grades. You'll certainly need an A Level in biology, as well as one in chemistry or maths. The job CAN mean going out on boat trips, and sometimes to exotic locations, but these are very few and far between. Looking in New Scientist mag, marine biologists often earn far less than what you've stated, but love the research and work that goes with the job.
I hope the girl at your school becomes a teacher. Good ones are sadly lacking, so we need more of them. If she achieves the good grades which're predicted, she can expect to land a good, steady job one day, which'll also bring as much satisfaction as they job you're hoping to get.

You are a conceited moron .There is no finer work in Education than teaching young children who are experiencing school for the first time.Helping them to develop skills in numeracy, literacy and so on.

Lol Brenda - well obviously this young lady's teachers seem unaware of what it takes to be a marine biologist. Her predicted grades won't be enough to get her into uni to study further, unless she can work extra hard and get the higher grades necessary. Oceanology and any job involving marine biological research is extremely competitive, and involves detailed knowledge of a vast array of subjects within the spectrum - often involving genetics these days as well.
If this post isn't a wind up, then the student who's hoping to become a teacher is more likely to attain her dream, and good luck to all concerned. : )

but the subjects i'm predicted b's in are the subjects that i don't really need for what i want to do. ie. art physics and english literature.

- just because the average marine bilogist/zoologist/oceanographer earns less than a head primary school teacher doesnt mean the place near me does.

- its probably been banged into usso much to reach are potential that i find it odd that this gril isn't/

- the teachers at the primary school are completely thick apart from one. i doubt any of them got more than a couple of b's.

Nix, why are you so worried about what this girl does anyway? Its up to her what she plans to do with the rest of her life? How old are you anyway as you seem to be about 10 years old? Well done on deciding what you want to do as a career and if you fancy her get one of your mates to ask her out for you.
