can someone please explain the difference, apart from the disregards for contribution based, more along the lines of why the rate is the same for someone who has paid 30 years + contributions and someone over 25 who hasn't paid a penny and never worked a day in their lives? Just a simple explanation that does not focus on the other state hand outs like NHS etc that both claimants would recieve equally.

at least it's just a stop-gap for you, and you have a job lined up. some people are stuck on benefits for a long time.

and you may be able to claim Housing/Council Tax Benefits from your Local Authority. .

It's not been a stop gap at all, the flood gates have opened and i am having to spend savings i should not have had to use, if ever i become unemployed again i will not survive. i have claimed housing and council tax benefit, but when i return to work next week i have to work a week in hand, that means noi income for 4 weeks, how do a survive that and get to work and back???? I have to use my fall back money, i can't not pay my housing costs and get in arrears can I? if i had been given a decent amount this last 2 months it wouldn;t have mattered, it's criminal and i have complained all day about it, i won't be wronged and i won;t be ignored, it;'s scandalous.
I seriously think whoever worked out that someone can live on this money should try living on for say a year at least I guess most people could for a week - knowing that they would go back to their original earning -after 7 days.

I seriously cannot understand how thye arrived at such a pathetic amount, it is fanciful and nort based on anyone's lifestyle I know
okay, but your complaint is against the government who make the rules, and not the jobcentre staff.

if you foresee something like this happening again, maybe you should think about some kind of unemployment insurance, which would probably pay out more than benefits.. although it's generally reliant on you signing on at the jobcentre anyway.
sorry dot I thought you got a good redundancy deal......
Question Author
i thought national insurance contributions were unemployment insurance, obviously another lie i didnlt pick up on
Question Author
yes craft i did, redundancy is compensation for losing your job, not for spending on trying to exist, even the jobcentre believe that because they disregard it
they wouldn't disregard it had you not paid your NI conts.
so you got a good redundancy package.......you only left your last job in early August (I think) and you're starting another job shortly................
Question Author
That's one thing I don;t understand sara, why would someone on income based have money saved that could be taken into account?????

craft the whole system is crap and they expect people to accept 64.30 a week for everything!!!! i cannot live on that, it took them 3 weeks to sort the claim out, I still had to live!!!! I have to work 4 weeks in hand, i still have to live and get to work!!! They don;t ask you what your outgoings are!!!! How do they know what you need to keep the house going and pay bills?? If they don't ask me what my bills are how the heck do they know how much i need?
Dot, tomorrow morning I'll be in court prosecuting people who have capital and fail to declare it.
Question Author
Well that's one thing noone could do to me, that office wanted everything , my redundancy statements pay slips bank statements, the thing they didn;t ask was how much a need a week to keep my home running!!!! To me that was far more important, i feel angry and let down and the stress is ridiculous!!!
sara I took redundancy when I was 57 and lived off my pay-out for over 2 years until my pension kicked in. When I was sorting my tax code out I was asked what my income had been so far that tax year and I said apart from bank interest it was zero. When I told them I had lived off redundancy money I was told I should have claimed JSA.....I replied that would have been wrong as I didn't want a job........they told me I should still have claimed it.......

i am trying to ask the above but not getting the answer that clearly makes sense
That is the problem with Sara she sees a few in court and think the rest of us live a high life. For everyone Sara sees i bet there are a few thousand that live in poverty
Question Author
woops did that wrong, yes you should have, i didnl;t thinbk i could, but they told me to and i have but what a palaver over next to nothing
When things went horribly wrong for us and they took ages to sort anything out my husband asked how we were supposed to feed our children. He was told to go to the police station and ask for money for food!
that's the problem with Sara? nice, thanks.

SnakeEyes, where did I give you the impression that I think you're living the high life?
Dot youre sounding off at everyone, understandably your angry but as Sara said its the Government!

A lot of people arent even lucky enought to be entitled to redundancy, or like me, fell short of my Redundancy Policy by ONE WEEK and had no pay-out and had to find another job.

You have had money to keep you alive, you have found another job, there are many many people struggling far more than that Dot and are, get this, over-qualified and cant get jobs
