i tried to get into work this morning, but i had to turn back as it was impossible to get thru all the snow and traffic...and cars were sliding all over the place, also my youngests nursery had closed and my oldest has to come home at 1, i phoned work and told them i cannot make it, i phoned them on my way back from the route to work, manager said i have to take it as annual leave, i was shocked and coz i dont have any leave left, just that one day, im now with no annual leave, can they do that? cant i just work the hours or isnt it classed as some kind of other leave if its unsafe to get into work? completely confused and peed off, at least i attempted to go in

I live opposite work so I have no excuses. I agree with most its entirely up to the employer and they have every right to ask you to take it as holiday or unpaid
Imagine how many people work for the NHS in the UK - 1.5 million people if everyone of them expected a day off with pay whaen it was snowing that equates to about 4000 years of lost productivity according to my rubbish calculations.
That can't be right, surely?
Geez, 'snow days' for some NHS employees, eh? Barking mad. No wonder the organisation is still less efficient as Gordon Brown wishes it was - having pumped all that taxpayers' money into it from 2001 onwards.
I think perhaps the snow days referred to are in fact carer's leave allowance - to be utilized if there is a breakdown in care that you need time to sort (ie nursery closed)

well well well, i went to work at half one, the roads had been reopened my end and it was easier to get in at that time, i just got back home now. manager was pleased to see me, but she said i shouild have stayed home as it was bad out there....hope the schools and creche are open tomorow and get back to normal...as i have a deadline to meet at work
If the manager agrees that you should stay at home it seems a bit harsh to make you take it as holiday!
Well done. You will have earned some Brownie points with your manager by getting in, in spite of the difficulties, so if it is as bad tomorrow and you don't fancy it, you should be in an OK position if you don't turn in.
tomorrow is worse by all accounts. sorry

wont be going in tomorow then, its tough for everyone but you cant put your life and car at risk just so you can earn brownie points hey.....and i wont have any childcare if the creche is shut so might go shopping instead......lol just kidding
