Hi there, hope someone can advise me. My dear dad in law died last Wednesday, and his funeral is coming up on Friday 1st. I am rota'd to work that day and my boss said i will have to take annual leave for this. What is my entitlement to compassionate leave?
Thanx in advance.
Should think it depends on the company you work for.
But, also depending on who you work for, you should be able to take off up to a week without a doctors note for stress.
Sorry about your loss, cazzrobb.
I agree with the answers given above.
Some companies would allow paid leave but some don't for in-laws.
Could you swap days with someone?
I had to take a half day unpaid leave in these circumstances
Thank you everyone, I have managed to swap with someone now, its a bit rich as I work for an equal opportunities company and management had 2 weeks CL plus 2 weeks sick leave for his loss recently, but all sorted now. Thank you all again.x.
I work in the NHS and we are allowed 6 days' leave per year for compassionate reasons. Very different from when I worked in the private sector when my dad died, he lived many miles away so I had to have time off work for all the necessities and the funeral - they gave me 2 days' compassionate leave and the rest was holiday.
Thinking of you cazzrob, glad you have managed to switch your shifts - you need to be there.
