I have made a few disparaging comments on facebook about the home I work in, I havent named the company that I work for or the name of the Home or any person. A few other staff have also made similar comments.

Today the Manager called in one of the staff members concerned and she was questioned about these comments and was made to make a statement.

The comments were made whilst off duty and on our own personal PC's.

Are we bound to answer any of these questions in this investigation about what was said on Facebook.

What is our legal position with all this, I will be leaving this employ as soon as I find another job.

TWR, that is outrageous abuse!!! A dreadfull thing to do :-(
You may be able to remove your comments from FB, but what about on AB and this post?
The direction regards F.B Boxy, the site is as dangerous as some of the people who view it! can you remember what happened on here a few weeks ago with one of the regular posters? I cannot remember her name but she got in trouble with her boss.
The person has not heard the end of it yet Ratters I can asure you.

Im really not that worried about Jules, if they want to spend their time tracking me down thats up to them, I wont be staying there anyway!
your dilemma should be a warning to all because employers do take this kind of thing seriously. social networks are the bane of modern society. i use facebook but never use it as a forum to rant about fellow workers its not the right place if you have genuine concerns is it not better to address them through correct channels rather than in a place for all to see. good luck with this i think you might need it
even though you havent mentioned names, its pretty obvious who you mean and most who know you will know you work there...then they will tell their friends etc...negative impact to any that hear your words i suppose.

legally you may be ok as you mentioned no names but in the job and with staff i dont think you will be very popular

nearly all the staff are behind me and being supportive.
Yes I remember TWR, but that wasn't anything to do with FB, it was here - and was completely different circumstances. Ratter is in potential trouble because of his FB post, from his home computer.
I stand to be corrected, you are right, I was sure it was on here but the warnings are there, my daughter is one of the managers at our local Hos, staff have been brought into account for their time spent on FB, the trust are talking about deducting their pay for the time the staff had been on the site.
..and rightly too, I think, TWR - not that this is relevant to the OP, sorry ratter - but I think it is wrong that those sites can be accessed during working hours in the public sector. We can't, they are blocked to us on our work computers.

Eddei, I dont feel the need to shoot you down lol. The papers have crossed my mind but that may be taking it a bit far. Who knows though?
ratter, i hope everything works out well for you.
Ratter, have you got free legal advice cover with any of your insurances? I needed some quick legal advice once on a Saturday afternoon and realised I was covered under my Saga home insurance. I was talking to a lawyer, expert in relevant field, within 5 mins.
RATTER, the residents in the care home are so very vulnerable!...I would expose the manager and owners!........go to the press!.......you're going to lose your job anyway!...........so expose them!.........lots of homes with dementia sufferers are rubbish, time attention was brought to this fact!....
any news ratter? i was worrying on your behalf today

Well, my Manager never even mentioned anything about Facebook, I think they are still talking to solicitors and seeking advice. We will see, I will keep you informed.
thanks ratter
