Help please. Hi, a few days ago unknown to me a car was unloaded from a breakdown truck in front of my house. My neighbours say they didn't see who it belongs to or where it came from.I am a fairly tolerant and fair minded person so I will give it a day or two to see if anyone comes forward to remove it. It is taxed until November so legally it can stay on the road. My question is if it sits there for days or weeks and causing an inconvience to me is there anything I can do about it to get it moved? I know this is a very grey area but any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

I think you are joking - whoever knew it's bad manners to park ANYWHERE but outside your own house? you would rather get arrested than have anyone park outside your house for a week? You seem rather crazy

no...the me me me ones are the people that, for some strange reason, believe they own the road outside their houses and have the right to control who parks there and for how long... and even having been told they have no rights over it, still believe it would be acceptable to remove someone elses car... just because they dont like it being there!

and they are also the ones that bizarrely expect complete strangers to knock ask their permission to park in a public street that doesnt belong to them!

gness, i think you are on your own here. i have a little piece of paper in my car (called a tax disc) that gives me as many rights as you (assuming your illegal activities regarding cars doesn't extend to not having a tax disc) regarding parking on the public road (ie, none)

unless you have a drop kerb or a disabled parking space there is not much you can do about a car parking in front of your house bar come to an agreement with the parker.

I don't think even having a dropped kerb matters. As long as they don't block you in.

the roads are owned by the council unless they are private or unadopted, you have no automatic rights to the piece of road outside your house.

Depends on the situation Ummmm. I have a very long parking area but often needed to get very close to my front door. Made me conscious of difficulties other people may have so if I think there may be a problem I ask.
No need to by law I know but as I said.....I have manners and I`m very nice. :-)

The Traffic Management Act 2004 made it an offence to park in front of a dropped kerb.

(slightly stupidly it is also illegal to park in front of your own dropped kerb and you can be fined for that too)

haha.... you are indeed on your own - i have never asked permission and no-one has ever asked me.
i dont know a single person who would ask - perhaps they may ask if they were friends, but not just anyone at random houses.

if they said no, would you move? and keep moving until someone says yes?
would you go house to house asking if anyone minds?
no, you wouldnt....and no-one would expect you too either.

i think you have made that up to try to back up your point, to try to imply that we are all inconsiderate and rude neighbours and you are nice - but actually it just makes you sound even weirder.

Seeing I have no road right in front of me, I am not qualified to respond.

However, I think I would appreciate someone approaching me to ask, even though I have no legal grounds if properly parked. If I had any suspicions about theft or fly-dumping, then yes, I would approach the appropriate authorities. I did this once in the US when I had some jerk park in one of my slots (using both of them) in a block of apartments and I had the car removed; that was of course on private ground and a different legal jurisdiction.
