Help please. Hi, a few days ago unknown to me a car was unloaded from a breakdown truck in front of my house. My neighbours say they didn't see who it belongs to or where it came from.I am a fairly tolerant and fair minded person so I will give it a day or two to see if anyone comes forward to remove it. It is taxed until November so legally it can stay on the road. My question is if it sits there for days or weeks and causing an inconvience to me is there anything I can do about it to get it moved? I know this is a very grey area but any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

you have no right to have the car moved.
as you yourself say, they are as entitled to park on the road as anyone else - that you dont know who owns the car is irrelevant.
and even if you did know whose it was, you have no right to tell them to move it.
your inconvenience is also irrelevant - you do not own the bit of road outside your house.

I agree with the other answers- there is nothing you can do unless it's causing an obstruction or contravenes parking regulations. I suppose you could check and see if the tyres are bald and then report it. Or you could report it to the police as a possible stolen vehicle that seems to have been dumped (but don't mention the breakdown truck), and see if the police follow it up and maybe the driver will move it.
Thank you all for your help.I do know that there is not much I can do about this problem so I will let it go for a few more days to see if someone comes forward to remove the vehicle; if not then I will have no choice but to contact the police and see if they can sort things out. If poss I will keep you informed of the outcome.....
"sort things out"?
there is nothing to sort!
so you think the police will move the car just because it irritates you?
the police wont be interested, since there is no crime being committed.
the person is allowed to leave their car there, even if they dont live in that street - you have no rights over them.
the terms you use, such as "I am a fairly tolerant and fair minded person so I will give it a day or two to see if anyone comes forward to remove it" and "I will let it go for a few more days to see if someone comes forward to remove the vehicle; if not then I will have no choice but to contact the police and see if they can sort things out"
would seem to imply that you believe you have some say in where other people park - you dont.
like i said, you dont own the road outside your house and you have not more rights to park there than anyone else - and your irritation is irrelevant to all except yourself

Whilst you are almost certainly right, Smowball and joko there is a possible (but unlikely) difference here though, in that the owner may not know his car is there. If the owner has reported the car as missing (unlikely, I know, given the circumstances), then the police will tell the rightful owner who will take it back
Joko."sort things out",What I mean is that I don't know if the car is stolen or whatever so surely the police can check that out. Also I didn't say it irritated me I said it could be an inconvenience if it remained there over a prolonged period a bit like a skip full of rubble being an immovable object. However joko as you say I just have to bite the bullet and let it go.However,I still think people could be a bit more thoughtfull of other than themselves instead of Me Me Me all the time
I have no objection to neighbours and their friends and family parking outside my house for short periods. We all do it and we share drives for visitors and parties.
If the car of an unknown person was outside my house for more than a week and the authorities could do nothing about it I know exactly how I would remove the car to a council car park.

oh dear.
well said bednobs!
your first thought was call the police!
no attempt to be considerate and find out whose it was! no note on the car, no calls to the neighbours etc
it probably belongs to someone in your street - recovery trucks dont just drop cars off in random streets!
it has probably broken down, so cannot be moved and the person will have it fixed when they are good and ready - but you dont care, you just want it moved!
how considerate!
i say again - the police arent concerned with your inconvenience
it is not a crime to inconvenience anyone.
and gness - thats ridiculous - it is not YOUR parking space!
if you move someones car somewhere, just because they parked it outside your house, dont be surprised to see some form of retaliation.
if you did that to my car, you would regret it.
