She told me that she was given a tresspassing document and told not to go back in any of their shops. When I asked what happened she said that she had been to the hairdressers and been in there 2 hours and had had nothing to eat. Wrongly she picked up some fruit meaning to go to the till and pay for it and forgot and started eating it. She is in here late 80's and gets confused at times. They took her to an office and questioned her, said they wouldnt call the police. She is very shaken up. They got her details and got her to sign a paper saying she was tresspassing in M and S. They said it would go no further but she said how will they know her will they have taken a photo ?

So, Davemano.....do you suspect there is more to my experience and to Pasta's and to Minty's than we have said?
A good word to use, PP.
I am relating to the lady in M and S.
But unless you know her or at least more about her than you do us, Dave, you must suspect there is more to our tales than you're aware of....there is no difference really.....
Also gness, this report is from the information supplied by an elderly and apparently sometimes confused lady. Totally different to your experience.
No, Dave....elderly I may not have been but believe me my illness had made me confused....totally confused and bewildered most days.
I think you may be confused with my last post The information is not from the person concerned.
i am with dave here - there must be more to this. Besides, the OP did not mention one apple, who knows what it was?
Knowing how easy it is to make a mistake, Bednobs.......and how likely it is that, by our late eighties, many of us will have moments of confusion I'd not cast suspicions on this lady unless I had more information on which to base those suspicions.
M and S would not take this sort of action over one apple being eaten by a very old lady.
Sometimes these measures are taken a little too eagerly and later rescinded.

Different scenario but worth a look.

I've seen people in the past 'trying ' a grape before purchase or 'trying' the pick and mix in supermarket .

Would that have been classed as theft ?

It would depend on the common sense approach of anyone viewing that action , if you had a basket/trolley with other goods in then it would be unwise to swoop and lose a customer for a grape.

Then I am prone to bouts of common sense.
You wait til you watch a couple using a ladle each to "taste" all the dishes on the salad counter in the middle of the Co-op, Baz....joking they'd not need any tea now..... :-)
Mamya - have read the Sainsbury incident, and the action has been taken not just from one incident.

Sainsbury incident?
Sorry, the link didn't work but I found a Mail report about a 73 years old woman using unacceptable language to Sainsbury delivery driver.
I meant to say Sainsbury report. ^^
I agree with some of the opinions here, we only have the account passed on to Tamaris from her neighbour, it's been stated there's no family and Tamaris is unable to help it appears.

Hence, for this lady's well being I think she should move on.

I am in no way stating there's more to this - how could I?
