Cheques Return - STOP PAYMENT
i am a garment exporter from india, new delhi. i had exported garments a client to london. after my exports after six months of delivery i did not receive my payment. so i visited london and he issued me four cheque totalling to pound 25351.00 against my exports of around pound 41351.00 and balance was to be paid latter. but when i presented these cheques in india they returned un-paid bounced for reason stop payment. now what can i do?

As they've stopped the cheques the it looks like they have no thought of paying you. For 41k I'd be on a flight to th UK and turn up at their offices and demand to know what's going on.
Having said that it was pretty naive to supply �41,000 worth of goods with no money up front and no payment schedule.

We once took a cheque for a thousand pounds as part payment on a car my husband was selling, it was bounced with the same reason, 'payment stopped'. We phoned, wrote and tried to call on the guy, but he always avoided us . When I went to the police they weren't in the least bit interested, even though, as I found out later, he has been done before for fraud, suggesting I see a solicitor instead. As that would have cost more in the long run we gave up. So much for bouncing a cheque being a criminal offence. Though Im sure if he'd done something more 'politically incorrect' the cops would have banged him up in no time!!
