But there could be long lasting repercussions.
Did your daughter willingly tell you? Is she upset?
Is your daughter mature for her age?
Is this her 'steady' boyfriend that you knew?
How would she feel about you reporting this to the police?
Did he know she is 14?

Well firstly your daughter will need to supply evidence. Due to her age EVERYTHING that has gone on will need to be revealed.
You can not act as an appropriate adult as you are now aware of the facts. Will she be happy for this???
Secondly, as she is OVER 13, the offence is lessened as she is old enough to give consent in law.
Thirdly, as the accused is under 21 and she over 13 believe it or not if found guilty he would probably get a non-custodial and 5 years on the Sexual Offences Register. That is if the CPS deem it in the public interest.
My advice would be to speak with CPT (Child Protection Team) at the local cop shop.
But be beware, if your daughter did consent (so we are not talking rape), the chances of the case going anywhere are fairly remote.
Alternatively "have a word" with the lad??? But if he is a little immature and your daughter is mature, is he really that bad if led on??
A nasty position for you to be in and if it was me, I would rip his eyes out. But I am not a responsible parent sadly.
Good luck.

According to the law as I understand it, a child under 16 cannot consent to sex. Therefore it is considered statutory rape whether or not she 'consented'. How it would stand if he could prove that he genuinely had no idea she was underage I really don't know.
There are ABers out there with good legal knowledge and I hope one of them will post and advise you more accurately.

A child can consent to sex over 13. Not 16.
It is still an offence but the critical age is 13, where a child is perceived in law not to have the mental ability to consent.
Hence there is NO DEFENCE whatsoever if the child is under 13.

Go to sect 9 and beyond.

there are many senarios for this one hunni. let me tell you i was 15 wen i slept with my bf and he was 21 i was young and never confessed to my real age so i suggest you ask your daughter the truth it may hurt but he may not have known anything at all! it hurts to think your precios lil girl is sexually active but its the real world make sure she is well protected cause she will continue whether u like it or not. he can be prosecuted tho even tho he didnt know the age he has commited an offence
Here is an excellent article from the BBC regarding the law, underage sex and the differences in a legal sense between a 12 year old having consensual sex and a 14 year old:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/special_report/1999 /02/99/e-cyclopedia/437789.stm
Of course we don't know the facts. If this 18 year old had met her on the internet, pretended to be 14 and groomed her for sex, this would be a totally different scenario to a street wise 14 year old having consensual sex with her 18 year old boyfriend who she met in a conventional way.
She may have told him she was 16 or even older - and it could be believable to a reasonable person that he believed in all honesty she was 16 or older.
Is she pregnant? Is there any possibility of an STD?

Maybe I'm completely wrong. But I think you should be treading a bit more carefully.
How do you think your daughter will feel when you try to have this guy (more than likely her boyfriend) arrested?
It could seriously damage your family in the future.
Afterall, if she wants a permanent relationship with him, when she's 28, he'll be 32. No-one would blink an eyelid.
I agree with abdulmajid, maybe you should have a word with this boy, ask him his intentions, does he know your daughters 14, would it be possible for the two of them to keep a platonic relationship until she is 16.
Your daughter will sleep with boyfriends whether she's 14 or 16, there is no way of stopping her.
Maybe you should be busy teaching your daughter about contrapception than shopping her boyfriend.

it was not my daughters boyfriend it was his brother who is 18 and talked her into having sex with him whilst she was under the influence of alcohol.my concern is the fact that she is ONLY 14 and he is 18 and a adult so he really should have known better.under any circumstances be it her materity, she is not at the age to consent and he definately did know her age so why would he want to have sex with a 14yr old school girl??
