and the document is??
me thinks the agreement is invalid unless you have agreed to the addendum.
An amendment is not valid unless you agreed to it.

Do you have a copy you have signed without the additional amendment to prove the content of the original you signed?

What was the document and what did they add?

Question Author
Yes I do have the signed copy without the additional amendment. The document was to return an item with a signed agreement that the item should not be fixed; the item should only be checked for faults. The serial number was added by them after I had signed, therefore I could not prove that the item sent for fault diagnosis was actually mine. I still believe that any additions should have required my copy to have been updated in my presence.
Just to clarify, what is the consequence of them adding the additional information?

If it was necessary to add and the correct information then I can't see a problem.
Yes, I think the serial number should have been included by you.

You equally could claim you had received a different unit back.
Question Author
I do dispute the fact that the editions were added. I feel my copy should have been undated with my full knowledge, the consequence of their actions are, the item being sent away should be traceable and recognizable by myself and the dealer by the serial number, the return of the said item would then be clear for all to see. It is some what underhand for them to add these numbers after the document had been signed.
I think that, without more information, we're all a little bit confused!
Do you know the serial number of the item sent? If it is the same then What's the problem? If it is different tell them.

If you don't know then they are perhaps covering themselves with an identification number which would seem to be the right thing to do.

Or are you just being @srey about them?
