my relative died in march 2007 and i have just a letter to authorise the trustees of his estate to forward any such monies to me,how long do you think this wil take

It's impossible to say without knowing exactly the stage the administration is at and whether the assets have been liquidated.
It depend who the Executor is on the Trust deed or if the Trustee is the Executor. Your letter also have to be 'certified true'. I would certainly see a Solicitor who offers a half hour free session.
