Abit of an odd question here but i need some info as its driving me insane. My fiance who i live with was accused yesterday of stealing my sisters jeans. Both are 100% convinced that they belong to eachother, so my sister called the police.
Neither of them have receipts or anything like that, and the police are due at my house tomorrow.
What im wondering is whats the procedure for something like this? How are the police supposed to be able to tell who they belong to? And whats the charge if they are stolen??
Any info would be great !

This is tailor made for a judgement of Solomon type resolution. If the police offered to cut the jeans in half and give each part to one of the claimants they could solve the case. Whoever really owned the jeans would rather give them up than see them destroyed.
Police been?
Maybe they've locked Crunchy up?
doubt the sister has a leg to stand on
I'd be surprised if we ever get to hear what happens in this matter.
Me too factor. Really annoys me, when someone never comments again to let you know what happened ect, Makes you regret spending the time / effort spent answering their question.
hopefully the police turned up and just banged the girls heads together!
Hope police resources are not diverted from a real crime.
depends on the jeans...£400 pair of prada or something ot £20 from the market?

it may sound daft, but only because they are sisters...if a man came up to me in the street and took a £400 item from my bag, or even £100, you would all be saying, call the police, get him done, outrage etc etc

whats the difference? theft it theft. the people and item involved do not alter that fact.
Why is your sister convinced your fiancee stole the jeans? Why could it not be assumed that she simply mixed them up with a similar pair of her own, your sister sounds a right jealous mare, don;t let her be a bridesmaid she'll try to upstage the bride. The police won't do anything. If your sister can't prove they are her jeans and your fiancee can't either the CPS wouldn't touch the case.
Joko is correct; theft is theft no matter how small or petty. You wouldn't like it if I took your underpants off your washing line, especially if you saw me do it.
i think crunchything knicked them and gave them to his fiancee as a prezzie .....seems to have been with the police a long time lol
Sorry joko, but I don't think this case is the same as someone on the street stealing something from your bag.

I cannot see how the police are expected to be able to establish in the case of the jeans whether a theft has in fact taken place since no-one has a receipt.
factor30: If something was stolen from my bag how would I prove it was mine if I didn't have the documentation to prove it?
Hi Dismouk2009.

My second paragraph was not directly related to my first paragraph.

I agree that in many cases victims can't prove to police they owned what they claimed was stolen, but I think the police would encourage victims of street robbery to report the crime and the police would want to find witnesses and get a description of the thief.

I don't believe they would encourage reporting of disputes like this with the jeans
yes its nots exactly the same, but it amounts to the same outcome...someone has had an item taken from them...just becasue the 2 invvolved know each other doesnt make it ok
we don't know if a theft actually went on though the sister could have put hers away and just can't find them so there is a slight difference in this senario .....are the jeans just mislaid ?

If this is how they carry on, the wedding will be fun. Any tickets going for onlookers??!!
I think we should Levis this subject alone now otherwise there may be a Flair up! Bit of a Pants question anyway.
