I was at York in England Sunday. Me and a friend wanted to go on a self drive 30 min boat trip. The policy was no one of the same gender was allowed on unless accomplished by the opposite gender
any particular reason

no rude comments if that can be helped thanks.

I think you mean no single sex groups allowed. This is probably to stop groups of lads getting a boat and being so drunk they cause problems. But as they can not say just 'no all male groups' due to the sex eqality laws they have to say ' mixed groups only'.

That seems to be a clear case of discrimination. You could sue them.

Are you seriously thinking of some form of legal action and compensation? If so i might be able to help.
A boat is private property though. Whoever owns it can have whoever they like on it.

I had a friend who had a housewarming party once and when he learnt one of the guests was a lesbian, ejected her immediately. Despite her bleeting about discrimination there was nothing she could do about it as she was on private property. I would do the same too.
There's far too many of those Lesbanians in this country now. Taking our jobs... and some of the wemen
Unless the boat hire company is run by the government, a government agency or a local authority the issue of "Human Rights" is not relevant.

HR legislation only applies to government organistaions or agencies employed by them.
Some of the women are lovely...and you'd never be able to tell...

Except they may look happier than their straight friends
I'm shocked at socket2008's answer!

I really didn't realise that there was still people with such bigoted attitudes about!
Sadly they still exist......When I was nursing I was told by a colleague I would burn in hell for my sexuality but when I complained to a manager I was told I should make allowances for her culture (she was black south african christian) I have also been refused access to a gay bar on the grounds I was obviously not lesbian enough... The same bar let in cute (young) straights so I suspect it was an age discrim thing
It is interesting that you were told to make allowances for her culture.

When white Christians ask for similar allowances (for example the clergy who would not like to undertake civil ceremonies, or the guest house owners who refused accommodation to two men) no such leeway is deemed permissible. In fact, far from allowances being made, such people are vehemently castigated for their beliefs.

It's a funny old world.
If you hire a boat for a holiday, especially on the Norfolk Broads, some boatyards say no same sex parties.
