Thanks Prudie - I thought that she may have metamorphosed.....

Well, having said that ... Molly from Lowestoft would be about the right age now.

It could be her.

Daisy ...

Clothes horses sell products to the high fashion market ...

... which, in turn, directly influences the following season's high street looks.

The catwalk is a crucial part of the clothing industry.
JJ that reminds me of the brilliantly cutting speech Meryl Streep made as Miranda ?? in the Devil wears Prada to Anne Hathway about a particular colour blue and the impact it had (you'd have had to seen the film to know what I'm on about)
Exactly Jayne... Also, Daisy, we are not asking you to have an interest in it. I still don't understand why people say things like this on threads about a particular subject. It isn't as if I piped in when we had the Rugby logo and complained about it cos I don't watch it.
Question Author
I did see the film, Prudie, although I can't remember that particular bit.

I hope I didn't sound "cutting".

Apologies if I did.
I love that film! If you like that you should watch 'The September Issue'. You get a real insight into the workings of US Vogue. Excellent :)
Not at all, Meryl was cutting - they were holding up 2 belts and she asked Ann which was better and she replied mockingly what's the difference they're both blue - then came the lecture about how a particular blue featured by a top designer had then influenced the whole fashion market for the year, right through to the high street and then the bargain baskets the following season.

Sorry I'm waffling now!!
Fashion industry? Anyone with any sense would not be seen wearing fashion.
It is completely risible and a waste of time and money. Who wants to look stupid?
Question Author
If you think about it, some of the creations on the catwalk are so outrageous, they never get worn in real life ... not even by celebs.

What they are doing is setting out the trends for the coming season ... eg. big shoulders are back in, purple is the new black, mid length is in, etc.

After the shows, the high street designers go back and recreate those trends.

That's how, by "coincidence" ... ALL of the high street shops put out the same sort of looks each season.
Question Author
Not just blatant fashion, Daisy.

But, take jeans, for instance.

At the mo, we're all wearing low riders. Last year it was boot cut. Before that it was straight leg. And so on. Quite subtle design features, but ... important on a Friday night.
Haha I've found it quoted:

This... 'stuff'? Oh... ok. I see, you think this has nothing to do with you. You go to your closet and you select out, oh I don't know, that lumpy blue sweater, for instance, because you're trying to tell the world that you take yourself too seriously to care about what you put on your back. But what you don't know is that that sweater is not just blue, it's not turquoise, it's not lapis, it's actually cerulean. You're also blithely unaware of the fact that in 2002, Oscar De La Renta did a collection of cerulean gowns. And then I think it was Yves St Laurent, wasn't it, who showed cerulean military jackets? I think we need a jacket here. And then cerulean quickly showed up in the collections of 8 different designers. Then it filtered down through the department stores and then trickled on down into some tragic casual corner where you, no doubt, fished it out of some clearance bin. However, that blue represents millions of dollars and countless jobs and so it's sort of comical how you think that you've made a choice that exempts you from the fashion industry when, in fact, you're wearing the sweater that was selected for you by the people in this room. From a pile of stuff.
I wouldn't bother explaining it to her, Jayne. We are only stupid people with no sense after all.

I just wonder where Daisy's wardrobe came from? Maybe she thinks that elves go into shops in the middle of the night and make all of these clothes.
Question Author
ha ha, that's great, Prudie.

Erin ... don't be too hard on Prudie. She's making some good points, even though she doesn't agree with us.

Pals here, yes?

=0)
What a load of rubbish. I will continue to wear clothes that are suitable, sensible, flattering, within my price range and which I like.
Question Author
Daisy ... YES !! ... fab.

That's how it should be.

But ... the reason that the clothes which are flattering, and which you like, are available in our price ranges ...

... goes all the way back to those clothes horses in Milan, Paris, etc.
Daisy that's fine, I do the same but the point is that what you buy has still been influenced by what was featured on the catwalks.
...........which have been influenced by the very people you are insulting.

Sorry Jayne but this really does aggravate me. I am only standing my ground.
Question Author
Oops, sorry ... I didn't mean Prudie ... I meant Daisy.

Duuh me !!!
I knew what you meant :-)
