I watched this film about two years ago, and I am SURE it has Jerry O'Connell in it (from Sliders). It has a very strange title (which I think was two words) and the storyline was that whenever he went to sleep, when he woke up, he had changed reality. He see's a psychotherapist who realises that he can personally gain from this, and instead of trying to cure him, manipulates his 'dreams' so that after each session he is more and more well off and starts making major world changes. It has a SERIOUS twist at the end which I cannot quite remember. PLEASE, I cannot find it anywhere.......

It sounds very much like Donnie Darko to me.  I guess the name Jake Gyllenhaal sounds a bit like Jerry O'Connell !

he doesnt become well off in donnie darko does he?

It sounds more like "The Lathe of Heaven", based on the book by Ursula LeGuin. Neither version has Jerry in it though:

It's possible one of the anthology shows (The Twilight Zone/The Outer Limits etc) ripped off the plot, though it's a very well known (in SF circles) book, so they probably wouldn't have dared...

it's not Donnie Darko; can't report on the other suggestions.
I think LeMarchand has it "Lathe of Heaven" starring Lucas Haas
Your 'synopsis' brings "The Butterfly Effect" to mind but I don't think Jerry O'Connell was in it.

Luna_Raine, why don't you just look up his name on the Internet Movie Data Base

www.imdb.com

and see if the list of film titles he has been in ring any bells ?
