Do you think social media sites are effecting our kids in a negative way?

Some young people seem to have lost the ability to actually speak to another person, face to face. When friends of the teenage lad next door called for him recently, they didn't knock on the door and ask his mother if the lad was in; they stood outside and texted him! That kind of thing must be down to sitting in front of a screen for too many hours in a day.

Yes. I see kids next or not very far from each other and they are communicating through the mobile. I mean within very close walking distance...

Kids are losing the ability to talk face to face and socially interact with each other. They think that if they are or something is not on Facebook (or such type of site) it is not worth bothering with. A group of kids will be out together but they will be texting friends who are not there. This always makes me wonder are they actually enjoying themselves in the company they are with.

I remember when the tv used to be blamed for rotting kids minds... I wonder if the radio was the culprit at somepoint. adults find kids confusing, kids find being a kid confusing, social media documents that confusion but I don't think they are inherently negative

yes, they sit with their phones in their hands all day long, they are never out of contact with someone else - no space to think their own thoughts or to observe the world around them.

The majority of young people I come into contact with, manage to have full and busy lives and incorporate social networking into and around it - much as I guess we all do.

Yes, I agree with you. Now kids are busy on facebook and other social networking sites. They can't give attention on their study. They talk all things to their online freinds. Their social life is also almost going to be finished.
