An thoroughly enjoyable series with an excellent performance by Sheridan Smith. However last night's episode was spoilt by the seen at the secret gay club showing men kissing and groping each other. It wasn't necessary to be so graphic, especially as there were probably a lot of elderly people watching it as the subject is from their era. In fact it made my stomach turn, if I had been watching it with my elderly mother I would have been embarrassed. Of course now I will be accused of being homophobic but i don't really care. Anyone out there agree with me (if you dare).

I thought the scenes in the gay club were OTT and ridiculous, and I did know, and worked with, a few gay people in the 60's when homosexualit y was illegal. I think they would have been mortified to be portrayed like that.....

I don’t watch it, but I do think some of the stuff on television is unnecessarily graphic. I remember the scene from the Omar Sharif movie, “Doctor Zhivago” where he got together with Julie Christie and the camera spanned off through the window to a field of daffodils blowing in the wind. Without being shown, or embarrassed in any way, we all knew what he and she were up to.

''it was because Epstein had a big part to play in Cillas life and he was gay,''
So?.........there were lots of straight people in cillas life but the produces did not feel it necessary to show them in heterosexual sex scenes. I think it was overdone and unnecessary to the plot. We saw he was in a Gay club, we know what he was there for, what happened in the club added nothing to the story line and I thought detracted from what is a really good series. No I'm not homophobic in the least, but don't need to be shown what goes on , I can use my imagination if need be.

Epstein died of a drugs overdose - whether accidental or not perhaps the scene was put in to show that he was a bit unstable even then. However, a bit gratuitous if the prog. doesn't get as far as the overdose.
By the way, those of us who lived through the 60s are only in our 60s or early 70s now and not all of us have brains that have turned to mush and a bit of a kiss and grope is hardly likely to bother us much.
