This was for the full 1 million and he didn't know.
I was screaming at the telly.

I remember that one too. The answers were something like Durham, Essex, Warwickshire and Somerset - i.e. the other three choices of counties weren't far north. If the question had simply been "Where is Chester Le Street?" then they would almost certainly have got it (considering they were smart enough to get to £500,000) but the "cricket" part seemed to simply throw them. I too was screaming at the TV ... I think this was before Judith Keppel won the first million.
