I didn't see the first series, but after reading how much it has been enjoyed here, I have been watching it for 45 minutes, and I have no idea what is going on.

Go with the flow...6 weeks of being shocked with all this good acting is great.
Relax, it will be fine - it does rather emphasise the 'bleakness' of some bits of the North (I used to live in Calderdale, know Sowerby Bridge very well -and it isn't at all 'bleak' I assure you). Stick with it.
ah that did not work
go to BBC i player and look for Happy valley the story so far
Go to Wikipedia and there's an episode by episode synopsis of Series 1, I watched it avidly but still needed to look back and remind myself. It's a bit of a Corrie girls reunion.
The acting is good and the series should be enjoyable. Have a read of the synopsis here:

I hope it helps.
The gritty North looks fantastic in it, I get very nostalgic for the hills and mills with the beautiful stone houses.
Does anyone know what HMIT stands for?
I found the sound quite indistinct at times and had difficulty hearing what some were saying, especially Catherine. Who is the actor playing the cheating husband? I've seen him in something else but can't remember what?
It gets you, doesn't it, Zebo? The North is so beautiful, in so many ways.

I think it's .........major incident team.
Halifax?
Elliemay he was the chap in Downton Abbey who went on to become a teacher, can't remember his name. I find this series very upsetting but strangely compelling. The woman who died in hospital - she was the wife of the factory owner who's daughter was kidnapped and raped by Royce in the last series. I think she had a terminal illness. Got to be something to do with the driver he sacked - he was driving the van who drove past Cawood and the two girls. Just speaking out loud really, getting my brain in order!
Just started watching, if the cheating husband is the first bloke he's from a blue Murder too (as is his 'girlfriend).
^ Blue Murder
Thanks rockhopper and helly welly. Of course!
Sorry - it was Scott and Bailey :(
Sorry, Sipowicz, don't quite understand.

'Happy Valley' is set in Calderdale, of which the chief town and administrative centre is Halifax. I once worked there, under the Halifax Education Authority(later the Calderdale Education Authority). Sowerby Bridge, in which the centre of 'Happy Valley' is set (about 2 miles from Halifax) is at the start of the narrowing Calder valley towards Todmorden - where the land changes and roads go towards Rochdale (left) or Burnley (right). It is an area in the Pennines which is very much controlled by geography.

Hope this helps.
The woman interviewing Catherine was from HMIT, I hate it when they use acronyms, assuming we'll know what it means!
