I adored One Foot from episode one, and right through.
I think people misunderstood Victor, he wasn't miserable for the sake of it, he was a man who found himself confounded at every step by circumstances, but was, as the subtlety showed, a deeply caring and sensitive man underneath it all.
Great comedy is about characters with depth- remember the fleeting mention of the Meldrews' child which clearly did not survive infancy? Mentioned once in all those series, and never referred to again - fantastic writing.
I am really enjoying watching all the episodes of Friends which are re-running now, and I adore serious sarcastic humour like Fawlty Towers and The Office.
Can't wait for Alan Partridge tomorrow!
