I think it is Frequency you are thinking about as he does hear conversations from the past on his radio. I thought this was quite a good film, haven't seen White Noise so can't comment on that.

Frequency is when he Denis Quaids sone uses his deceased dad's (Quaid) radio and can tap into the past and speak to his dad. He then helps his dad so that he doesnt die in a fire which killed him when he was a young boy. They are both firemen. The past and future changes and they are reunited in present time.

Not a bad film.

White noise is when a woman dies and her husband can hear messages from her from beyond the grave, via white noise on a tv. Better than Frequency.
