I spent a couple of hours last night with tears crawling down my face. Tears of sadness, and tears of laughter. I've just read that Ricky Gervais has said, writing and directing the series, whilst immensely satisfying, is also daunting. He should try watching it! I only made it through the first four brilliant episodes before the emotional roller-coaster became too much. I'll most likely complete the series tonight.
Anyone else tuned in, yet?

I liked the first series of afterlife and look forward to watching the second. I never liked Derek.
Derek was a bit of an acquired taste. After the first episode I wasn't enamoured really but I watched another (as a huge comedy fan I always like to give them a fair crack) anyway, it just got better and I ended up binge watching that too.
Chilldoubt I've been a fan of his since The Office which I absolutely loved. I was the only person I knew who liked him in those days.
I couldn't get to grips with his portrayal of Derek. It's uncomfortable watching an intelligent actor that you know is Ricky Gervais playing a [insert whatever the currently acceptable word for what Derek was here].
TBF LB, it was a new kind of comedy then, no piped laughter etc no standard sitcom fare. It's the modern way, I'm a huge fan of comedy, ancient and modern, I give it all a chance. Err indoors is not so forgiving!
"It's uncomfortable watching an intelligent actor" - at the larry said to RDN, about the method, act dear boy. That's the point though, he's playing a learning dis character, ie acting!
* as Larry said to RDN.
// That's the point though, he's playing a learning dis character, ie acting! //

Yeah I know, I just couldn't get into it. It wasn't believable.
True TTT. I had never seen anything like it, it was different. David Brent - I cringe just thinking about him. Mackenzie Crook and Martin Freemen were perfect in their roles.
I've watched episodes 3 and 4 of Derek. I'm finding it a bit depressing - probably because Ricky Gervais is a man who observes life as it really is. Nevertheless it's compulsive viewing.

I've now downloaded all the episodes of The Office I can find. About 3 series of 6 each I think. I don't know if that's all there is. I've seen bits in the past but I've never actually watched any of it. Here goes!
be prepared to cringe naomi!
Steeling myself as we speak, TTT. :o)
The Office and Extras are some of the finest pieces of comedy I have ever watched.

I never got to finish Derek but will start over with that later.

Finished watching Afterlife 2 this morning and my eyes are now sore and red....!
I can't for the life of me understand why some people think the Afterlife series 2 had a sad ending. I thought it was hopeful if that makes sense. It was a very good Series but I don't know if he could squeeze out a series 3, I think it may be best just left where they ended it to be honest.
I can't stand Gervais, but this is getting such acclaim. How Gervais-y is it compared to other stuff?
Tigger, what's Extras. Is that another Ricky Gervais series?
Extras is hilarious, it stars Ricki as well as the actress who pays the nurse in After Life . Its about those two being 'Extras' on film and TV sets.
Yes Naomi. Extras came along after The Office and also starred Stephen Merchant.
Is it another written and directed by him, apg? Got to say, as an observer of life, the man is an absolute genius!
Thanks tigger. I'll se if I can find it to download.
