I am the first to understand that comedy is subjective - I have a member of my family whom I love dearly, notwithstanding that she thinks Michael McIntyre is funny ...

But I watched about twenty minutes of Eddie izzard on tv tonight, and I simply don't get it

I couldn't raise a smile if my life depended on it, so what am I missing?

I don't really watch stand-up comedians any more. Prefer situation comedy e.g. Lee Mack in Not Going Out & Peter Kay in Car Share. Outnumbered was very funny too. And some of the American ones - Malcolm in the Middle. I never "got it" with Frazier though which some folks rave about.
There's not many that doesn't like Peter Kay, but different comedians appeal to us for different reasons, and I respect that.
Another comedian I like, is Robert Mitchell. One reason alone, is his voice! I just want to giggle just listening to him...

I am one of the people who rave about Frasier!

It has real depth, the characters are really rounded personalities - and the two brothers, as desperately snobbish and effete as they are, obviously really love each other, and are decent people with character flaws that often bury that decency in a cascade of pointless stupidity.
I quite like Rich Hall, he has a great delivery, here he is on Tom Cruise Films:

And Count Arthur Strong (on radio & TV) - hilarious!

Once again we part company - I find him as funny as dysentery on a coach holiday!!!

That made me laugh out loud - the delivery and the material, both spot on.
Andy, you can thank your lucky stars that we're not as smart as we'd like to think we are! ;-)
AH 11:54, did you laugh loud enough to award BA?
I like Stewart Francis for his one liners/ pun.

Love Michael McIntyre and Peter Kay. I love observational comedy. Victoria Wood's another, so sad she went so young.
I don't find Eddie Izzard funny at all.
I also like observation comedy LB. I don't do jokes!!!

Peter Kay!

A lot of our older contributors remember Dave Allen fondly, I found that after a while, his exaggerated mannerisms and cliched delivery started to detract from what was considered controversial comedy in its day.
Yes, DA another one;-))

LB hilarious, illustrates the absurdity of religion very well.
I've watched that clip of Dave Allen a few times now. Still makes me laugh.
He was a really nice bloke as well so I've read.
Andy-Hughes - // I always wonder if I will like Dean Friedman as a person, because I think Lucky Star is the most treacly, insipid, vapid, utterly creepy song I have ever heard!!! //

That could be me posting!
