You won't find 'haitch' in the dictionary, only the correct spelling aitch.

That accounts for changes over time in common pronunciations, and also for regional variations in speech.

There are no hard and fast rules - everyone is right, no-one is wrong.

...but bobbie @11.06, "Annick" isn't a mispronunciation...that's the way it's supposed to be said...like Bicester, Norwich etc.

That's a rather sweeping statement apparently accusing ALL presenters of that faux pas! Do you have examples on film?

One thing about pronunciation for me, as I've said on here before, is the Americanisation of it, eg, committee becomes commiddee, setting becomes seddings, meeting becomes meedding. The worst culprit of any of them on BBC radio is a girl Lisa McCormack, but she is not alone. Football commentators are all as bad. As someone said before, they've all gone for a 'T' break!!!!

There are many but one I noticed recently is "Jewellery" - pronounced "Jerlery" - rather than the correct Joo-uhl-ree. Then of course there is the no 1, Nucular! aaaarrrrggghhh!

Newkiller is the one you mean, TTT. I guess the media don't think it's important to pronounce words in the correct manner.

I don’t mind the odd word being mispronounced - but some of regional dialects are a very definite assault upon the ears - particularly when accompanied less than dulcet tones, like Janet Street Porter, Steph McGovern, and anyone with a 'Cilla Black' 'lorra, lorra' Scouse accent. And Glaswegian? What?

I have to turn some programmes off because I can't understand the presenters, especially on Sky Sports News. Talk Sport seems to be full of alkys to me. Just have a listen, then tune elsewhere!

As to your question of my having filmed examples, why would I wish to record something I regarded as an error? The answer is no, I have none.
